ABOUT THE ARTIST TOM
GOODWIN grew up literally a few feet from the ocean, which to him was playground,
teacher, and inspiration for his life's passions. As the infant son of Dorothy
B. Thompson, married to Key West-based Coast Guard officer Thomas, Sr., Tommy's
earliest days were spent in the Hemmingway home. His godmother, Pauline Hemmingway,
was very keen on enabling the young family to remain together during his father's
enlistment. By the age of 17, he was earning a living
from his watercolors. A self-taught artist, musician, and boatbuilder, Tom's gift
is reflected in his land and sea scapes, which capture the dynamics of the ever-moving
forces of nature. His wide recognition was gained from his personal art exhibits
over the years, and some of his work has appeared in the "Featured Artist"
articles in SOUTHERN BOATING magazine. The charm of
local dwellings and the charismatic attitude of fishermen and their sailing vessels
are no strangers to him as his home is Nassau, Bahamas, where he is continuously
inspired by the natural beauty and bright colors that create his world.
